But isn't that classic indoctrination?

It's a relatively simple way to reaffirm your belief and show others in the group that you believe. A lot of organizations, evil and not, have mantras, mottos, organization-specific-speak - it's a way to make you feel that you're a part of them. It can be very ritualistic and some are all about remembering their history.

But, honestly, it was movie shorthand - an easy way to identify bad guys because we absolutely connect it to the Nazis (and really, since they already were connected to the Nazis, why not use it?).
