(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 01:16 am (UTC)(link)Because I once learned that the author of a VERY hot fic was a virgin. Like, in her 20s, never been kissed, no immediate prospects. I couldn't handle my illusion being shattered like that.
When I found out the Monkees didn't sing their own songs for the most part, I was equally shattered...and I came DECADES after The Monkees, so it wasn't like it wasn't public knowledge by that time. I don't want to know too many personal details about things. I like being blissfully unaware about certain things.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)Do you mean they didn't sing their own songs as in they didn't write them? If so that's not a big deal at all because tons of bands don't write the songs they sing. Or do you mean they didn't actually sing the songs that were released as theirs? If that's the case...whoa. That's crazy.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 07:44 am (UTC)(link)Being able to write about things you haven't directly experienced is one of the skills involved in writing fiction. I'm not sure I understand the objection.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 11:35 am (UTC)(link)So are you just as disappointed when you read a fic with bad/illogical/physically impossible sex in it, written by someone sexually experienced? Because that happens much more often.
I admit to having my mind completely blown when I discovered one of the hottest smut writers I've found is asexual. After getting over my brain's BSOD, I went, "Dang, that writer's talented", and I respect them even more now.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)A very sexually active friend of mine, who didn't know I was a virgin, used some of my fics when she was asked to write stories for a phone sex lines and ran out of ideas.
