(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)The BNF's that I've known are the fangirl stereotype that you've described. Fandom is healthiest when it's done as a hobby, and not as an obsession or the only thing in your life.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 07:06 am (UTC)(link)I feel like the majority of people commenting in this thread are missing that part. Fandom is great - when it's not the sole driving force in your life. If that's all you have going on in your life, then you probably need to get some help and some perspective.
(And I say this as someone who is in their 30s and currently unemployed.)

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 11:47 am (UTC)(link)Doctor's appointments. Medical testing. Therapy visits. Not being able to take care of myself due to a condition beyond my control (brain damage, if you must know).
Fandom is my "obsession" because online, I don't have to deal with the pitying looks. Online, I'm just another person. Worthy of the same love and respect as any other human being.
Fandom makes me happy, and if you think I should just wallow in misery for whatever reason, well... I think it's YOUR perspective that needs a little tweaking.
