I agree it's not medieval. I think people are just kind of stating that it's pointless to even try to pinpoint it to a time in our world, since things clearly developed differently in theirs.

Darnit, everyone here misunderstood me. Oh well. My point was never that Attack on Titan should be matched up to a particular time period in European history. I don't even think the author tried to set it in a specific time period. It just bothers me when people say that it's set in a medieval setting, when it's clearly not. And because I'm a nerd who cares about that kind of thing, essentially.
