exactly. i have nothing much to add to this.
as for the kind of endings i like... honestly, as much as i like gritty media, there's a limit to how much angst i can take, especially with endings. i just like some ambiguity and realism. not every end needs to be tied up. you gotta leave something to the imagination, you know?

Some of the ambiguous endings that frustrate me are because it's like the author didn't realize what the actual point was, and didn't solve that, and that annoys me. Then again, I feel like the ending of HP addressed a bunch of points it didn't need to.
for the record, I loved the ending of Inception, because that worked perfectly.
