I just don't know why some HP fans expected a somber, Les Mis-esque ending. I never thought that would happen, because it's not JKR's style. I do think we could've used to have seen more of the aftermath, but on the other hand, aftermaths of wars are... not pretty. What happened after probably amounted to years of further strife and trying to pick up.

So, yeah. I liked the epilogue.

... and before anyone says it, yes, I know not everyone who didn't like the epilogue wanted a Les Mis ending. Just saying, some people did, and that was never going to happen.

I suspect very few fans expected a somber ending. I think most people just wanted a quick chapter of Harry paying his respects and Dumbledore's grave or whatever and then walking into the sunset to rebuild the Wizarding World, The End.

There's nothing grim about that. If anything, it's MORE hopeful than what we got, because JKR basically shot the shit out of any hopes that Slytherin stopped being the 'evil' house, because Harry's kid is worried he'll be sorted there and Harry's response is "the bravest dude I ever knew was a Slytherin, but if you're really worried about it just tell the hat and it won't put you there lol"

Yeah, it would have been nice to get some resolution on The Slytherin Issue.

I guess I read the epilogue wrong because I thought it was strongly implied in Harry's speech to Albus that Slytherin was not the evil house anymore, except to ignorant little kids who believe old myths until they get set straight by their parents.
