Recently I was hit on by a creep at my bus stop who wouldn't listen to me when I said, as politely as I could, that I was unavailable. After that I wanted to tell him to fuck off and leave me alone, but I kept being polite. The only reason I did was because he was black and I didn't want him to think I was racist. I don't know if that was the right decision.

Honestly, if someone's being creepy, you have a right to tell them to say no. You don't have to be polite to people who don't respect you.

(I've been in a similar situation before where I wished I'd been more assertive... it can be really tough trying to overcome that conditioned politeness.)

Well, how well did that work out? Not trying to be mean here, but realistic and blunt. It didn't work out.

You just saw firsthand that overly strong social justice concerns sometimes just don't have a place in the real world. He sure didn't fuck off with the way you responded. Maybe next time forget about black and white and just tell the person that should fuck off to do just that.
