Re: Does anyone else only feel fat when they're trying to lose weight?
HOWEVER. I think I might have some tips to keep going.
1) Set goals and reward yourself for them with "decadent" things. For example, when it comes to running, whenever I hit a distance goal, I get to have a beer (I keep beer drinking to a minimum because of its caloric content).
2) Vary your workouts. If you do the same thing every day, then a) you'll get bored and b) you'll plateau faster. Look up different routines and challenge yourself.
3) Aim for something other than weight loss. One of the things that keeps me going is the knowledge that I'm stronger than I once was. Think of something that you can't do or that's hard for you to do because you don't have the strength for it, and aim toward being able to do it. It's really motivating, and when you get to where you're able to do it, you feel so good, and it makes you want to get even stronger.
4) Try to exercise as early in the day as possible, even if that means getting up a little earlier. I know, that probably sounds counter-intuitive to the mission of "keep going," but we have more motivation early in the day, so it's easier to get into a workout. Also, it gives you an energy boost, and you start craving that boost.
Re: Does anyone else only feel fat when they're trying to lose weight?
2) Oh definitely. I'm easily bored. Though I'm fairly limited in what I can/am allowed to do physically. So mostly it's just walking/dancing currently.
3) That's a large pat of wanting to lose weight for me, but its less tangible and harder to measure, I guess. But I like the idea of being stronger.
4) I'm reaaally not a morning person, so I'll keep this on in the back of my mind, in case I start plateau-ing.
Thanks for the input!
Re: Does anyone else only feel fat when they're trying to lose weight?
4) I'm not either. I'm the sort of person who likes to sleep in as late as possible. But I've found that, if I just get past the hurdle of waking up, then I'm a lot more willing to work out in the morning than I am after work, and doing so feels so good that I wind up looking forward to the next morning's exercise.
