Bad machinery, which I think is getting better (damn, Shelly used to annoy me)
Gunshow for joke comics
Dumbing of age
girlswithslingshots, although I'm reading it mostly out of habit
(almost daily updates)

less regular:
Octopus pie for coming of age and humour
Order of the stick for a great fantasy story and gray morality

occasionally
Hark a vagrant for historical comics (her tumblr blog is also nice)
Homestuck
And I still like Pictures for Sad Childen.

Bad Machinery has been real good & it doesn't even annoy me when he does a stint of Bobbins instead anymore. All the characters are just so good.

yeah!
to be honest I almost wanted to drop it when Tim blew up his house and it played up the "unfair nagging wife" trope again (most of his mother characters are unpleasant killjoys, while the quirky daughters look up to their chill dads etc), plus the stupid joke about women scientists and fathers owning their daughter or some shit...
But the ending of that story arc made up for it, even the author's pets have some fallibility now.

/rant, sorry.

Oh man I completely know what you mean, I was definitely pretty skeptical and annoyed about that one (and I know what you mean about the mother characters thing). But it does seem like he has a pretty decent ability to recover when he makes a misstep and get back to the things that I actually like.

agreed, one can't value that enough... especially with long-running comics.
the fantastic realism stuff is great and one can see that the plot is carefully constructed etc (especially in the time travel story, heh).

tbh I think I would read it even without the magical realism stuff. I mean, the magical realism stuff is great, don't get me wrong, but it's not really what I read the strip for. I read it for the characters and the dialogue more than anything and I'd probably still read the strip if it was about the characters reacting to stuff that was completely normal

I mean the current storyline hasn't had any supernatural elements (at least none that I've noticed so far, so maybe I'm just very dim) and it's been fantastic.

yeah, this storyline is great! It's cool that Mimi turned up again and I wonder how Shauna's band involvement will influence the story later on.

This mod vs rocker war will probably escalate into Wild comical proportions and maybe the fantastic element will be something about how the mod trend started (with Jack? with the Scooter?), but if it would break the pattern of magic realism cases I wouldn't mind either (or did we have one of those before?).
