Webcomic thread
(Anonymous) 2014-05-22 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)I highly recommend Widdershins, Dunbing of Age and Gunnerkrigg Court.
Re: Webcomic thread
Couple others that I mostly just read out of habit.
Re: Webcomic thread
Sometimes catch up with ASW, Indexed, PA, xkcd, Subnormality, and Hark! A Vagrant.

if you're an elder scrolls fan, there's prequel. it's an interactive homestuck style comic where you guide a novice and unlucky (that's an understatement) khajiit wizard through her adventures in cyrodiil.
rice boy is one of the most beautiful things i've ever read, and also one of the most bizarre. honestly, i wouldn't know how to explain it.

also Homestuck when it's not on hiatus
those are the only two I follow regularly - there are a few others I check up on sporadically, or have bookmarked and not really ever gotten back to
because I am horrible about organizing bookmarksRe: Webcomic thread

OH. I also started Strong Female Protagonist a couple days ago, and it is surprisingly good. Given the title, and the janky opening, I was all, "oh man, check out this try-hard tumblr baby about a privileged and super-powered white kid taking on social justice oooh how lame."
But then it slapped me upside the face it is a subversion of my shitty expectations and deconstruction of superheroes.

Re: Webcomic thread
Gunshow for joke comics
Dumbing of age
girlswithslingshots, although I'm reading it mostly out of habit
(almost daily updates)
less regular:
Octopus pie for coming of age and humour
Order of the stick for a great fantasy story and gray morality
occasionally
Hark a vagrant for historical comics (her tumblr blog is also nice)
Homestuck
And I still like Pictures for Sad Childen.

Brawl in the Family started off pretty weak, but it's gotten to the point where I actually think it's better than Penny Arcade. It's very cutesy, but not entirely innocent, and it draws a lot of unexpected parallels.
I largely read Critical Miss out of habit at this point. It's mildly funny and a quick read.
Dissonance is the story of two scientists and one adorable little critter of unidentified origins, the existence of which may or may not be miraculous. The comic's laudably cagey about exactly what this thing is--what matters is how people react to it, and the increasing implication that very bad things are going to be done in its name. Sadly, updates are REALLY slow right now.
Freefall is the closest thing I've seen to a hard science fiction webcomic. (No, A Miracle of Science does not count.) It has cool protagonists and asks some interesting questions, but it can get hamhanded, particularly when the author attempts social commentary.
Friendship is Dragons is clearly inspired by, and pretty much the opposite of, DM of the Rings. That series was all about roleplay failure--what happens when your DM wants to tell a story, and your players are just combat monsters? FiD is about the joys and perils of roleplay success, and what happens when a group really comes together. It's pretty charming.
Goblins is bloody, brutal, ugly, tragic, and heart-breaking. It has awful art, lovable characters, a convoluted plot, some great deadpan humor, and some of the most horrifying violence I've ever seen in a comic. It's definitely not for all tastes, but I think it's worth a look if you're not squeamish.
Heavenly Nostrils is Calvin and Hobbes for girls. Seriously, if you liked Calvin and Hobbes, here's a comic that attempts to do everything it did. It's not quite as good as the original, but it's showing signs of becoming its own entity, with more continuity and an emphasis on character growth.

Re: Webcomic thread
As a guilty pleasure, I follow Teahouse. I started Girl Genius because a roommate of mine liked it and Homestuck because everyone's in love but I haven't gotten very far in either.
Darwin Charmichael is Going to Hell is great, but I think it ended sometime recently and I haven't had the heart to finish it because I love it too much.
