-All quadrants are romantic. The distinction is between platonic and sexual. Diamonds and clubs are platonic. Hearts (love) and spades (hate) are sexual. The sexual relationships are to ensure the race continues biologically; the platonic relationships are to ensure trolls, for the most part, don't just start killing each other all over the place.

-The clubs relationship is about one person keeping two other people from being too volatile and devolving into a hateship that'll just crash and burn. Or if one person is feeling love and the other is feeling hate, or they're both wavering between the two.

-Hateships are romantic because trolls are aliens. Also because the ideal troll hateship is more of an extremely passionate rivalry where you want the other person to suffer but still be alive and willing to make you suffer in turn at the end of the day. If you actually want the other person dead, it's not an ideal relationship. It's not at all healthy in human terms, but they're aliens and their culture is far more violent in general than ours.

A lot of it boils down to trolls are aliens, tbh.
