I agree with everyone else. I don't see that happening. Bucky was starting to remember, just with Steve talking to him. No cosmic cube required. With enough time, Bucky can return to himself without alien or supernatural means. He'll need crap-tons of therapy & love & therapy, but I think it can be done.

Also, Seb DOES have a 9 film contract, as has also been stated.

But I agree. I read some of the Winter Soldier comics because, well, because I HAD TO. I thought the cosmic cube thing was cheesy as hell. Of course, I also hated the adolescent sidekick thing. MCU!Bucky is 8000X better than comics!Bucky.

I want Cap 3 to be meaningful looks & phrases from the past, along with lots of hugs & (re)bonding & an epic amount of killing Hydra forces as a means to heal. And Nat & Clint & Sam helping.

I think the Cosmic Cube thing was Brubaker playing around with comic conventions. Just like when he wrote about Bucky having a telepathic bond with his arm and so, when captured, he was able to make it single-handedly take out a dozen men and crawl through the vents back to him.

It was cheesy, yes. But so was Cap.

It was fantastic.

A lot of readers hated it. I thought it was amazing, because while I love engaging, emotional story-lines, I kind of loved the decades when comic books were completely ridiculous. And the vent-crawling arm was a deliberate and wonderful callback to those decades.

Do you happen to know which issue(s) this was in or if it's in a graphic novel collection? (I think I need it in my life.)

Captain America #33, a bit after everything went horrendously wrong (due to the Steve spoiler mentioned in other threads) and Bucky decided that Tony was to blame.

But the Russians got Bucky for a bit before that. So they took him and stole his arm. And his arm beat the hell out of them.

*nod* I read it not as "well shit, we need to bring Bucky's memories back somehow, DEUS EX MACHINA TO THE RESCUE," because there are a zillion other ways they could've brought his memories back, but more like "okay, we have this silly deus ex machina device floating around canon, hey guys what's the one thing Steve Rogers would wish for if he got his hands on it?"
