Is misophonia at all related to "sensory defensiveness"? (which is an older term I think.)

I did a quick search and I don't think so. The best I can describe it, is like your mind goes into a state of being attacked. It's an intense feeling of rage and disgust, and you just feel like attacking the source or running as fast as you can from it. There's a few theories of why it might be, though. A type of Synesthesia, a form of OCD, a new disorder all together, etc. There was a study done, and most of the participants lacked any psychiatric disorder aside from OCPD. I don't think I have that, however.

Does it ever get better over time? I remember having horribly intense feelings of rage and panic at certain sounds (including a couple of particular voices, unfortunately) when I was a child, but it hasn't been an issue for years (I recently met one of the people whose voice used to affect me so strongly when I was a kid, and though I could hear that it was the same voice, I had none of the same reactions). Could that have been related, or is it a lifelong thing?

It's gotten worse as I got older. On the flipside I have more self control about dealing with it. As a child I didn't react in the best way I'm afraid. :/
