It's as good a reason as any to watch that show.
helenadax: (ouat)

[personal profile] helenadax 2014-05-24 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why I watch Downton Abbey, tbh.

I think the costumes on OUAT look silly. Just me?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not just you. I got really annoyed with some of the costumes in the first season especially (when I was still watching). I was doubly annoyed because in addition to not doing fairy tales right, they didn't even do fairy tale dresses right.

The dress in the picture is still good, though.

Regina's costumes, both FTL and Storybrooke, are a joy all their own. Who else could pull off a blue feathered collar in modern Maine? And the black leather pants + riding coat ensemble from FTL was awesome, all variations of it. Also her hats. She had that red cavalier hat for one of her riding outfits, it was fabulous.

I mean, Rumple had a few notable ensembles (that red silk shirt with the gold waistcoat was very nice, and the black-on-black Dolce & Gabbana in Storybrooke is lovely), and Jefferson has flair, but Regina is just something else.

No-one dresses like an OUAT villain. No-one. Mostly because you need all the confidence in the universe to pull off some of the things they wear, and the ability to set people on fire for heckling certainly doesn't hurt either.

No-one dresses like an OUAT villain. No-one.
*g* Various gothic music festivals and concerts have taught me otherwise...

(Anonymous) 2014-05-24 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That costume looks really good on her, wow. I would watch for that too.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-24 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Game Of Thrones has better costume porn than that shitty show.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-24 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Too bad GOT is garbage. Not a fan of this show either, but come on.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's also hyper-violent, which is something a lot of people can't stand.

Also, I think the costume porn is about equal.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Really? GOT costumes are so boring to me. Compared to some of the outfits described in the books, for example, Cersei, Daenarys and Sansa pretty much wear variations on the same dulled-down dresses.

Well, this show certainly has 'pretty people in lovely costumes' covered, so who could even blame you?

Even when the show is crap I like seeing what everyone is wearing, lol.
cloud_riven: Close-up of an open-mouthed piglet! Is it recoiling? Or side-eyeing? Maybe saying, "HEY YOU TWO SHOULD KISS"? Mystery! (pig pig PIG)

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2014-05-24 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know people liked the costumes. I'm partial to Mulan's, but everything else looks so embarrassing. Especially any of the pieces that are trying to be reminiscent of the movies.

Regina has the best costumes.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-24 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Outside of S1 Regina? Nope.

The costume designer doesn't know anything about historical clothing, and sometimes I question his understanding of fit. The way those ladies move around inside their ill-fit, poorly-boned bodices is sad.

We're talking a fantasy world. I actually like that Once clothes aren't specifically historical. They are generically and yet fabulously fantasy clothes that evoke a historical feel without referencing any specific period. Which is exactly like FTL is, so it works.
nightscale: Starbolt (GoT: Cersei)

[personal profile] nightscale 2014-05-24 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a gorgeous dress so I don't blame you.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-24 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't say no to costume porn myself. It was the ONLY reason to watch that last Three Musketeers movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-24 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a good reason; costume porn is great and that dress is preeeeetty

Oh yeah. That is some scrumptiousness.

Really? Because considering it's Disney and the budget they must have at their disposal, I'm constantly disappointed by the costumes :(

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
from what I understand, they aren't exactly swimming in budget

It's odd. I like the fantasy mishmash feel of the show, but it's obvious that sometimes the costume department doesn't have a lot of time to work on things. They use beautiful expensive fabrics and the tailoring is well done, but what decoration there is tends to be appliqued beadwork and rhinestone panels--things that are relatively quick to do, since they're made beforehand and then just sewn on. It makes the costumes, however amazing, look--I dunno. Pre-fabricated. And some of the ensemble costumes--the dancers at the ball young Cora crashed, and pretty much all the teeny cocktail dresses in Ariel's episode--look really, distractingly modern.

I don't watch GoT, but apparently they've got someone doing amazing custom embroidery on a lot of the costumes, and the costumes generally look more like clothes and less like costumes than OUAT's do. Since they're a cable show, they've got the time and budget-- they're not writing scripts and casting as they go, then having to whip together clothes for the actors in three days.

I have to say, though, that whoever OUAT's got doing their leatherwork is fucking amazing. If only whoever kept leaving really amazingly obvious zippers out in plain sight would learn to hide them.
