The Smallville pilot was so good. And genuinely clever. Pity the show didn't really live up to it.

I love BrBa but I think the Pilot's pretty slow.

Hmm, I guess I mainly love it on the rewatch, just....seeing the germination of that character arc.

Oh, that's definitely true. I found much of the first season too plodding when I watched it the first time, but on rewatch- wow, that characterization...

I loved the Buffy pilot, but I know I'm in the minority there.

I loved it too. I thought it was pretty pitch perfect, which is rare for a show's pilot.

I loved it, too, but. . . I've only one other episode so far.

I love the TNG pilot for its cheesiness and its Bones cameo, but most of all for not being "Code of Honor."

You must REALLY love cheese. That entire first season pained me.

I remember really liking the pilot to Due South. But I haven't seen it in a long time so I'm not sure how well it would hold up today

I thought the Hannibal pilot was pretty good. I mean, I hated the rest of the show (it just ended up not being my thing) but I was into it for that one episode

Attack on Titan also had a great first episode imo

The best pilot episode for me was the Pilot of K. I kept having to pause it because I was getting too excited about the atmosphere, the characters, the music. Seems like a lot of shows have to find their feet but I liked that one right off the bat.

Tiger & Bunny also has a good pilot episode. Funny, a great job of introducing all the lovable characters (Kotetsu Kotetsu Kotetsu), tells you everything you need to know as the plot is unfolding. I really liked that and I don't watch much anime.

Definitely agreed on K!

Hannibal's plot had me sold within the first ten minutes. It was one of the most beautiful and scary plots I had ever seen.

Worst:

Babylon 5. I love the show to pieces, but I had to force myself to watch past the first episode.

Star Trek: TNG. It was just kind of a mess and didn't really showcase the characters very well.

Game of Thrones. I know. I know. But again, like Babylon 5, I didn't like the first episode. I actually watched it when it aired and didn't pick up the rest of season 1 until after it had all aired because the pilot didn't grab me. Maybe its because I'm not all about the Starks and don't love Ned. I don't know.

Best:

Buffy. I still love season 1, no matter what people say. I was hooked right from the pilot.

Star Trek: Voyager- I think Voyager has the best pilot and final of all the Trek series.

House. I wish the show had ended as well as it began.

I kind of agree on B5 to a degree. The story itself is still solid, but a lot of the effects are dated and some of the characterizations are off from what we come to know from these characters later on (and don't get me started on alien make - up on G'Kar, Londo, and Delenn in that pilot).

Maybe I'm a bit biased because TNG is my Trek series, but I loved and still love Encounter at Farpoint. I mean, it had the first apperance of Q in it!

I love Gintama so much, but the first two episodes are boring and not very funny. I usually tell people to start with episode 3 or 4.

worst might be parks and rec. in fact, almost the whole first season and part of the second ranged from kind of bad to terrible; it's one of those shows that really took a while to find its footing. the rest of the show is absolutely golden though, it's one of my favorites.

Best: lost
Worst (out of shows that caught their stride and got better): Probably Star Trek: TNG, other than introducing Q, it just wasn't very good.

The pilot of Leverage was really good, had some classic lines, and most of all, does what a pilot ideally should: if you like this, you will like the rest of the show.

Best would probably be Firefly.

Worst would be Parks and Rec.

Stargate SG1 would be up there with best pilots if it wasn't for the random nudity that is NO WHERE to be seen in the rest of the series.

THE WONDER WOMAN PILOT. Oh my GOD that was horrifying even if I knew nothing of Wonder Woman. It was so terrible it was never even aired and you can only find it on the internet.

I want to scrub my eyes just thinking about it.

Best: Lost, Firefly, DS9
Honorable mention: BSG's "33." Second episode, first non-miniseries. The one that got my friends and I hooked on the show.

Worst: TNG. Their whole first season was pretty rough. I didn't think Community's pilot was particularly good compared to the rest of the (first 3) seasons either.
