it's not your age, trust me. i'm fairly young and i can't keep track of the billion names people come up with. whenever i see a new one become a trend, i groan like "what does this one mean, what is it used for, who am i going to offend when i inevitably forget to use it"

Yeah, and then you see all those faux-linguistics celebratory posts about how amazing it is that Tumblr is a creole or whatever and I'm like ....................

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurggggh those posts make me foam at the mouth with rage. It's so silly for me to get worked up over that, but seriously, Tumblr-speak is not a fucking language. If anything, it's a discourse community.

tbh I'm not even sure it's that defined... I'd say that tumblr has jargon and leave it there.

that's what I would call it. though a lot of it is internet jargon in some ways? Not all of the internet, but not just tumblr.
