Things like kissing or being hugged stops them. If I'm reading a shmoopy rom fic that has been pretty unrealistic anyways, I'm not going to be bothered by it since I'm probably reading the fic for instant gratification.

When it's touched upon realistically, and has overall not been "suspension of disbelief: the fanfiction", I do give props.

Same with insomnia, because I do have to lol whenever true love or implied true love conquers a sleeping disorder. It's so cute though.

love or implied true love conquers a sleeping disorder

That would be very convenient, and hardly anyone would have insomnia, ever.

IRL, however it is more along the lines of, I AM TRYING VERY DESPERATELY TO SLEEP CAN YOU JUST NOT EXIST PLEASE.

I think true love might cure a sleeping disorder, even a long term one? It's the comfort factor.

I once had insomnia for 1 1/2 years, only sleeping about 4 hrs/night before waking early and not being able to sleep any more (my eyes still have dark rings a year later). Having someone I loved lying warm next to me did help, although usually I chose to sleep alone.

Ha, I never knew I was such a romantic.

That is romantic!

Well shit there I go making high-pitched noises again.

"true love", or love, can't cure anything. But having a person you really trust next to you can help you work through some stuff that you otherwise couldn't. I've suffered from anxiety, suicidal depression and insomnia for most of my life. I can't count the nights I've lied awake in my bed, so terrified I couldn't even move my eyeballs because my entire body was frozen stiff. Not saying all this to be dramatic or anything but trying to explain that yeah, there's been some nasty turns.

Yet these nights I sleep like a baby, every single night, because the man I love and trust is next to me. I can get anxiety attacks still, from time to time, but I've learned that I can deal with them by touching him or holding him (though he can't hold me, then I panic more). So yeah, there you are, there can be that one person who makes you safer and can let you relax a bit. The love doesn't conquer, but we're social animals and feel safer with someone whom we trust.

I get that. An old friend of mine alleviated some of my own issues, at least for the time I could be open with her. It was pretty isolating dealing with it alone, let alone when others could quite get it, that I couldn't just lie back and close my eyes, or just not believe pervasive thoughts. So them, and the comfort of being with them, I get it :)

In fiction, it isn't always played as a comfort or something that helps someone deal with whatever it is they have. In particular with indulgent fan fiction, it's the "cure-all" I was getting at.
