As a lot of commenters have mentioned below, there are multiple ways to experience panic attacks. In my case, I just reach a point where I'm too stressed out and my body shuts down. I get hot, sweaty, and my hearing starts to go, and then my legs give out. I've fainted twice, but I'm usually still conscious, just sort of weak and dizzy. Weirdly, once that mode sets in, I don't actually feel literal "panic" any more because I'm too disoriented to feel much of anything. I'd still say it feels like dying, though.

But none of that means yours wasn't also a panic attack. I just sort of quietly crumple to the floor, but I have a friend whose panic attacks are way more scary and dramatic than mine, and she describes hers pretty similarly to yours.
