If it helps your friend understand what she has, great. I prefer not to engage people desperate for the queer badge.

eta: that sounds ruder than intended. What I'm saying is that the infinite labels are nice for figuring out and making sense of one's identity. I'm bothered by the implicit queering of something that isn't queer (ie: associating it with the Q from LGBTQ*). It comes off very "no homo".

da

"It comes off very "no homo"."

but isn't it kind of...the exact opposite of that? they're not trying hard to deny they're queer when they are, they're pretending to be when they aren't.

Ah. You are right. I'm projecting a bit since QPP to me sounded like a ragging on homoromantic relationships ("We have a very special bond. But we're not gay."). It's more the name that bothers me than it being a stand-in for platonic emotional intimacy or whatever, which is me coming down to semantics. It still bugs me to know Q somehow extends to, for lack of a better word, its straight variant.

Even then I think I'm starting to get it as meaning a bit more all-encompassing and interpretive, such as with genderqueer.

NAYRT

What does homoromantic mean?

It's a jargon word meaning romantic interest in the same sex. Gay basically, but it doesn't necessarily mean sexual attraction is there. Say this asexual girl craves a girlfriend. She might id as a homoromantic ace.
Same idea for heteromantic, pan/biromantic, and whatever combo of situation.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!
