I love the kudos system because of how quick and easy it is. Comments are more personal and I DO like leaving them, but I just don't do it as much as I should (or used to). Sometimes I have difficulty thinking of what to say so I don't even bother and just give kudos instead. It's a better alternative than no comments and no kudos, imo.

This.

Sometimes I'll like something and want to comment, but leave it open in and tab for days thinking about what to say, and eventually forget to comment at all. At least with the kudos button I can have left acknowledgement even if I don't get around to adding anything else.

I've done that before. Or even closed the tab and said, "I'm going to come back to this and comment later" and just forget to do it. Or chicken out because I feel like my comment is stupid. Kudos might not be people's favorites, but at least they're something.

Yeah, same here as well. Either all I can think of is "omg i loved this" or 5 paragraphs of analysis that I don't even know where to begin with. Don't have time for the in-depth analysis and "omg i love this" always feels really cheap, especially when I do have so many other thoughts.

And, I guess hitting "kudos" is cheapest of all, but IDK. It still feels like I'm leaving the door open for said extended analysis, even if I rarely go back and actually write one.

I have done the long comment thing. I've quoted back what felt like half the story and explained why I loved certain lines and I've written paragraphs about how much I adored a for fic but... That takes a lot of time. I know when I was leaving comments like that, I wasn't reading near as many fics because I will second guess my comments and edit them and all that, and it's a chore. So I like leaving comments, but it's just easier not to. Which is kind of inconsiderate of me, I know, but... Yea.

I don't blame anyone for just leaving kudos though. Even if people see it as cheap, I think it's an easy way of saying “I like this”, which is a good thing for people to do.
