Nope, I'm Brazilian and we have them. Tbh I was quite surprised when I learned they don't exist in most places. Do people go to regular hotels when they just need a place to have sex?

Wiki says they exist in several countries in Central and South America.

da

I think they tend to exist in places where it's hard to have sex anywhere else. For example, they are all over here in Tokyo because people often live with their families, don't drive cars, etc. There's just not a great place to go and have sex. Maybe there's even a bigger will to keep sexual relationships more private, too, hence love hotels.

Whereas in America, it's a lot more unusual for adults to live with their families. Of course, people still go to hotels to have sex, but bringing someone back to your apartment is usually easy enough, too.

I don't know if that's the reason, I'm just speculating.

DA
That's pretty much the reasoning I've always heard. Privacy for nookie is comparatively hard to come by in Japan.

afaik, yeah. Or they just do it in a car, or something. But like someone else said, this doesn't come up a lot where I live because most people have their own place, or at least have a roommate who has a predictable schedule. (Or they're just jackasses and don't care if other people here them having sex...)

Ah, thanks for the reply. Here most people who don't have their own place or room also don't have a car and none of the regular hotels charge by the hour.

I don't think hotels do that here either, it's just that you can get some hella cheap ones for the night.

We do, but I've only ever heard people refer to them in the pejorative sense and only ever seen them looking like creepy shady motels. I've never tried to rent one though.

We do. They're typically shady as all get out and used by people wanting to cheat on their spouses. XD But we have them. Motel no-tells.
