Stuff like this is one of the reasons I'm no longer active in fandom. As a reader, I'm expected to leave a comment (and sometimes a lengthy comment, depending on the author), any time I read a fic because the author worked SO HARD on it. If I leave kudos or favorites, I'm a horrible, selfish person. I remember there was even a movement on Deviant Art "Comment before favoriting" I just stopped favoriting.

As an writer, I appreciated likes and kudos, but I got tired of messing with fan fiction politics. No, I'll just sit here in my own little corner and be anti-social.

Of course, my fics weren't that great and I never commented so it's no big loss. :P

I am not a writer, just a reader, but my fandom experience is exactly similar: I used to be pretty active and leave lots of comments, have a recognizable alias etc., but now that I see how badly people react, I do not interact anymore with anyone. So it's kudos or nothing (and apparently event that is too much, based on the OP's opinion which seems shared by several people on this secret).

So thanks to the OP for discouraging us to leave even kudos just in case the story we have read is written by someone who shares their opinion: good job, OP!

I think that people like you are the reason fandom is dying a slow, painful death where meta is dead and fanfic is all pointless porn.

Nobody makes an effort to engage anymore, in any way. It's all tumblr and kudos and pointlessness. Because you might get yelled at if you do anything else.
