Someone makes a show with characters that are there to specifically draw an audience? Color me surprised! Next you are going to tell me they pick hot men/women to act in their movies because people will want to see them.

Basically yeah. The vast majority of media you see on a given day has had a lot of thought put into how it will draw in viewers. It's a thing.

Of course, but nobody likes to feel like they're a tick box in some marketing guy's agenda. I haven't seen this show so I couldn't say if this is what's happening or not, but surely we've all seen movies or TV shows and rolled our eyes at how obvious and unsubtle they're being?

There's also a psychotic serial killer and a hardass corporate manager (and suicidal cop but she's dead). and that's as of S2E1, I still need to catch up on the rest.

The show has a huge variety of character and most of them are absolutely fascinating.
