Slightly OT

I feel like there are at least three valid discussions that could have come out of this, and none of them are going to be had for different reasons. The one that is being had, over and over, is a detailed, almost salivating description of the exact circumstances of the killings. (Seriously, there was one where the headline was about how his parents had warned the police about him, and I thought it were going to talk about law enforcement's attempts to pick up potential threats and how they'd missed a genuine threat. Then it barely discussed it at all in favor of a play-by-play of who died how and how bloodily.)

This. That's the one aspect of this, no matter what the talk of MRA, mental health, gun control, ect., that I wish the media would talk more about (I know CNN talked about it briefly yesterday amid all the feminism stuff, but the expert they had was like "Well the parents should have gone to court first and had him committed' - bullshit) The police really missed the boat on this one. I really seriously doubt they even looked at the YouTube vids they were told about. Because if they had, that might have been grounds alone for getting a warrant to search this guys apartment and perhaps finding the guns and writings this guy had (and maybe enough to get him involuntarily commited for a psych eval), no matter how 'charming' this guy was to the officer visiting him.
