Guards Guards is the 8th, just at the start of his Golden Age. The others are shading later though, towards the start of the last third (if that makes sense). Personally while I love Nightwatch, I put MR and T! as being on the downward slide. Near the top of that slide, but definitely not up to former par. Monstrous Regiment was okay until the end, but it pushed its concept just too far at the end.

Then it wasn't Guards! Guards!, it was his first book, The Colour of Magic, sorry, I know it's dumb to get those confused, but I haven't read either for a long time. ^^;

Are you talking about the fact that everyone in the regiment was a girl? Because yeah, that did make me "eh?" a little bit. Like, I can see it happening on Discworld, since there are long odds that the regiment would end up as all women, just by chance, and the Disc loves it narritivium, but at the same time, it was a little off to me. Not super off- I liked the book, but just a little, you know?

It was something that should have been a side joke in another book rather than a book all on its own.

I respectfully disagree, though I do agree that at times it did break my willing suspension of disbelief.
