They do. Lesbian characters attract fans who want lesbians, as well as fans who want to slash dudes while having the female characters canonically out of the way. It's pretty common, actually.

orange is the new black? faking it? some people will watch anything with pretty, pretty white lesbians (and bisexuals).

They get fandoms, sure, but they're not giants like Teen Wolf or Supernatural. And it's no gaurantee of picking up enough of a fanbase to keep getting renewed- look at Bomb Girls.
