I grew up with something on toast being a common breakfast. Baked Beans on toast, canned spaghetti, canned stew, practically anything canned can be served on toast. Eggs on toast as well, scrambled or fried - the latter preferably with runny yolks.

I used to like having avocado and Marmite (Sanitarium HFC Vegemite equivalent) together on toast, but I have grown to like avocado on it's own, with just a sprinkle of salt.

An old favourite of mine is cheese-on-toast. Toast a couple of slices of bread, butter them thinly, spread them with tomato paste, then cover with your favourite cheese and put under a grill until the cheese has melted. Eat hot while the cheese is still melty.

I prefer to have cheddar cheese on cheese-on-toast, mostly because it's the type I grew up with. Grated for preference, but if all I have is a block, I'm more likely to slice it because I hate grating things. Processed cheese slices are okay, but I prefer those on toasted cheese sandwiches (see yesterday's tomato thread, for toasted tomato sandwiches - the cheese version doesn't need any extra salt though).

Complex breakfasts! Some of these also look worth trying. I wouldn't want to use most tinned soups on toast though.

I completely forgot that some countries don't have marmite! Though apparently the santiarium version is different from the ones we have here in Britain. Which makes me curious. I think I can get Vegemite here.

Canned soup? No, it's usually too runny. Stew is thicker, so it holds up better on toast. Canned soup I'd more have the toast as a side for dipping.

Also, I honestly am not sure how different British Marmite is to Australian Vegemite/Marmite. I grew up with Sanitarium, because the company is owned by my church, but even then if there are differences to Kraft Vegemite, I can't really tell.

Yeah, canned.

Interesting. Well, I might have to try and see. I am curious about these things.
