Well, depending on how long the MCU goes on they will all be replaced. Wouldn't be too hard for most (my limited knowledge of comics makes me think most of these characters have had a replacement/apprentice), though replacing Thor will be a bit odd because he is immortal and I am unsure of whether he had a replacement or not.

They could always just have someone else get Mjolnir for a while. They'd get Thor's powers and Thor could be off...raising kids or ruling Asgard or rehabilitating Loki, or whatever.

Ruling Asgard would be the best one I think.

*cough*Beta Ray Bill*cough*

(Or if they don't want to go that OTT, they could always use Eric Masterson/Thunderstrike...)

I kinda hope they'd go with someone like Valkyrie, reworked for the movies.

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2014-05-28 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Valkyrie would be pretty awesome. I think she'd make more sense to have in a 'Thor' movie. They can easily retool Beta Ray Bill to fit in the GOTG filmverse (it's not like he hasn't been shown space adventuring without the Odinpower before. In the 'Star Masters' miniseries from '96, he got a replacement Stormbreaker that operated on the Power Cosmic iirc), and then give Valkyrie a time to shine in the 'Thor' flicks.

I'd say that's a win-win scenario, imho.

(Or they could find a way to use Thor Girl/Tarene...)

It kinda depends on if or when the MCU bubble pops. I'm skeptical that they'll get all of their master plan done before it does.

Well, apparently X-Men: Days of Future Past is now Marvel's 8th #1 movie in a row.

X-Men are still in FOX land. I think that their roadmap covers almost 20 years of material, and I don't think their streak will go that long.

Different group for that movie, but the point stands anyway. Superhero movies are in right now, and will be for at least a few more years, probably. They'll need several duds before they nix the formula.

I found out today that there was a kind of 'What If' mini-comic thing where Natasha took up Mjolnir and became a goddess or something. She got her own statue and everything. It was pretty awesome.

I need to find this mini-comic because this is right up my alley.

Thor's had a couple of "replacements".

Beta Ray Bill -a cyborg space*horse warrior- never really was considered a 'replacement', but he was the first -and at that point, only- character to lift Mjolnir besides Thor. He's a pretty awesome guy, but unless they somehow tie Sutur into 'Thor 3' -as Sutur was responsible for the destruction of Bill's homeworld-, BRB might be better suited for a future 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie instead if the MCU wants to do things differently.

(I just want to see BRB on screen, period. *sniffle*)

Then there was the Eric Masterson years, wherein a single/divorced dad and architect had merged with Thor and became his alter-ego (and that's just the layman's explanation). There's been a few others, but BRB and Eric are the two major ones that come to mind for me.

That alien horse is horrifying. It looks like his face is a skull.

Well, for the two actors mentioned, you've got Bucky and Rhodey who've both been Cap and IM respectively and they're both already there in the MCU so... yeah. Really not that big a deal.
