Yeah, I wouldn't. Definitely insensitive. Talk to any supportive friend about this, but not a friend who can barely afford to eat daily. They would probably try to be supportive, but that doesn't mean that they wouldn't secretly resent you for it, or grow to resent you. And that's not good for either of you.
