Re: Food you've tried because of fandom

I already mentioned in the thread for secret 15 that I decided I didn't like porridge with sugar and milk after reading a fic with a character saying it tastes better with savoury additions (it was a FFIX fic).

I think I originally tried Pocky because I'd heard about it in fandom, though I think it was less fic and more general Pocky craze.

I also think the same thing happened with okonomiyaki - I occasionally read Ranma 1/2 fic, and at some point looked up okonomiyaki to get an idea of what it is. I was at a street market up in Caloundra when Mum and I stayed there for a weekend with my aunt and uncle (Mum's sister and her husband). I will say the okonomiyaki there was probably not the greatest quality, and had too much sauce on top, but the next time I was in the Brisbane CBD and had money for it, I bought okonomiyaki at a tepanyaki store in the Meyer Centre. Their cooking was better quality and I have bought it occasionally since, when I could afford a meal of $13+ and have the patience to wait for it to be cooked.

I don't think Fandom influenced me to try sushi though. I did that myself.
