I makes me a bit sad that some of the absolutely brilliant fics out there are going to be Jossed.

A silly thing to make me sad. I'm sure that Markus and Mcfeely will do an amazing job, given that they did with Cap 2, but…some of the fic is so very good.

Gawd, yes, I just hope there's a lot of angst and man-pain and sad looks and hugging...

But, non-canonicity is a the nature of fic. Though I am a tiny bit sad we'll never see Bucky and Steve have a hot sex scene on-screen.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, SebStan has certainly got a gift for acting out sad, desperate gay sex, and Chris Evans is a staunch supporter of gay rights (and was called the first LGBT Captain America by Sam Jackson).

So…you never know. Ok, so we probably do. But it's not COMPLETELY outside of the realm of possibility

It would be glorious, but I swore I'd never become of of those slash fans who ends up convinced it's totally going to be canon.

On another note, I should totally make efforts to seek out those SebStan gay sex scenes.

AYRT

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Dude. I was shipping it in tFA (which was confusing because I also thought Steve and Peggy were amazing together, but it didn't strike me as a potential OT3). Because 1. Bucky apparently has Steveneedsbackupsense, if the alley is any indication, "2. NOT WITHOUT YOU!" and, 3. Even still very obviously messed up by the torture in the Hydra facility, he's still willing to go fight by Steve's side. It got all the worse in tWS with Steve's reactions to him surviving, and Steve being the thing that can apparently break Hydra's programming.

So, yeah. Do I think it's going to be canon? Probably not. But I would also not be surprised if it did, except in a "holyshitMarvelwentthere" sort of way. :)

SebStan gay sex scenes are all very short. But they exist. The anonymous sex one in the first episode of Political Animals is probably the most powerful, imo (it cuts away before anything actually happens, but what is done on-screen is…weirdly beautiful. And desperate.)

I wasn't shipping it,but I was totally crushing on Bucky in First Avenger.

I'm more and X-Men/Spidey gal - so I'm not that familiar with Captain American canon. I was so sad, because I genuinely though he died in 1.

That's part of why Winter Soldier just fucked with my head so much. I was like going from "aw yisss" to "aw nooo" all the time. And their sad looks all over were amazing.

I'll probably dig up political animals, then.

Well, the movie fucked with the heads of Cap fans, too. For one, the Bucky/Steve dynamic is completely different in the comics. More importantly, there wasn't any ongoing horrific torture of the Winter Soldier in the comics. His memories were removed once, and then the Red Room (Hydra's less-cool little brother from Russia, basically) made him their puppet. He didn't know who he was, but he still got to choose his own actions outside of missions.

So they went for stabbing you in the heart and then twisting the blade? Well played, Marvel, well played.

I believe my comment to my roommate was "ripped my heart out of my chest and trampled on it, and then opened me up and used my stomach as a timber hitch"

Kings and Political Animals, or as I think of them, In which SebStan Kisses All the Boys.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Just don't expect great things in either of them. Sebastian Stan is probably the best thing about Political Animals and Kings is…odd. Not sure if SebStan is the best part of that one, but his character certainly the most fascinating.

The boy is a fantastic actor who seems to keep getting cast in roles that are completely beneath his ability. I'm so happy he's in the Captain America movies, and getting to both show his talents and have millions of people view them. He's basically played four different personalities (flippant playboy and broken playboy in tFA, and then the death machine and the childlike passiveness in tWS), and nailed each one.

Never in a million years can I see this happening (which makes me sad because I love Steve and Bucky's relationship and having a bi Captain America would be kickass), but the fact that Sebastian probably wouldn't take a full minute to reply with, "Yes, sure, makes sense" makes me happy. And I bet Evans would be pretty cool with it, too.

I'm torn here. I sort of hate how tumblr has claimed Cap as bisexual in all the usual annoying tumblr ways.

On the other hand, I think a bi Cap would be really fucking cool.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
There is that whole pesky problem of the era they spent most of their time in. 30s wasn't exactly the most gay-friendly decade in US history, and I do imagine that both of the CHARACTERS would be resistant to the admitting feelings even if they existed.

(I ignore Tumblr and look at the evidence as it is presented, though. And that is that Bucky worships the ground Steve walks on, and Steve was willing to let Bucky kill him rather than fight back against him. And my slash goggles have been hard to see through for quite some time.)

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-05-30 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's the problem of acting on it, yes. But not acting on it doesn't magically make you straight in my book, in any case.

And, I could swear I read somewhere that in WWII, there actually instances of young soldiers "seeking comfort" with each other, and it was somewhat known, but tolerated and not mentioned - as they basically thought they were going to die the next day. But I can't for the life of me remember where I read it.

What I mean is: while they wouldn't necessarily have had a bisexual "identity" like now, that doesn't mean they didn't participate in behavior we'd consider bisexual in modern day terms.

Fantastic book. And, yes, the homophobia and overt prejudice experienced by WWII soldiers could be genuinely terrible, but there was also at the same time a surprising amount of tolerance to be found.

Ah, I haven't seen that much of it so I'm not fed up with it. I just think it would be neat if a war hero and symbol of goodness and justice was bisexual. (Especially considering the era he grew up in. Steve is having to adjust to a lot of things, this would be another for sure, but it would be interesting seeing how he would handle it.)

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-05-30 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think part of the coolness of the idea it because he's just such a genuinely good, sweet guy with a big heart and sense of justice - and a role model. Off the top off my head, I can't think of a character like that who is bi in popular fiction.
elaminator: (Captain America: TWS - Steve (plane))

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-30 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. He would be a wonderful role model. He's already a great role model, but having him be bi would add an extra layer of awesomeness because so many people could connect with that. I don't think there's any bi superheroes on the big screen. (Now, Watchmen did have a couple gay characters, but Watchmen wasn't family friendly. Marvel is a bit more safe for all ages.)

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I love how tolerant all the actors seem to be.

Like Hemsworth playing charades with Mark Ruffalo (look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about), and his biggest problem with two men having a child seems to be the physical impossibility of the act.

I know exactly the interview you're talking about and it will always please me that Hemsworth is chill with having babies with Ruffalo, lol. He's a good sport and a tolerant guy; I think you're right, they all seem to be. It's an excellent cast.

(Plus, if we're still talking about Chris Evans, the guy is always talking about how he wants Hemsworth's bod, so.)
