tbh, OP, as far as fictional dudes go, you could do much worse. John's a cutie and a genuinely good person who seems like he'd be easy to get along with.

That said, don't forget it is fantasy - and don't forget that in reality people are not so "perfect" (I mean Egbert's not perfect either, just, he is fictional and it's easy to gloss over the flaws). There's no such thing as the ideal boyfriend (or girlfriend) because there will always be issues and drawbacks.
