Yeah, sometimes the bad dubs had hidden gems in their voice actors. Whether the actor could act or whether the dub was so bad it was hilariously fun to listen to them anyways.

I keep thinking about this too, while watching the sub episodes. I keep expecting her to bust out with that accent.

All of the original dub episodes are on youtube so it's not like they can't

I rewatched the first season a couple years ago or so and fully intended to rewatch the English dub version, since that was what I grew up with, had the most familiar voices, I expected I'd enjoy the most.

Instead the voices and dialogues ended up being really grating half the time, and I'd switched to watching the original Japanese by episode three.

(Of course that doesn't apply to all old dubs; you will pull my FOX version of Totoro from my cold dead hands.)

I'll miss the music- "My only love" is still one of my favourite anime songs. Also I vastly prefer the dubs opening credits to the japanese ones.

If there was one thing I think the old dub did well, it was the music. Until I hear the new dub, my preference lies with the original Japanese version, but I still prefer My Only Love and Carry On to the original Silver Crystal and Moonlight Densetsu in those particular scenes, and I still have a soft spot for many of the dub's music cues.

I've only seen a few of the episodes in English, the rest I watched in a variety of Asian dubs. And since those were uncensored, I remember being totally confused as a kid when I stumbled upon an English dubbed episode and they made Zoisite into a woman.

Some of the Sailor Moon Says segments I've seen make me wish I had grown up with the dub. Maybe most of them were preachy after-school-special advice, but a few of them had messages I don't remember ever getting elsewhere and know could have meant a lot to me.

Yeah! I still remember being kind of blindsided when they went from Sailor Venus telling you to brush your teeth every day one episode to Usagi popping up in the next one saying that no one has the right to abuse anyone in a relationship and if you feel uncomfortable with your boyfriend for any reason to get out of the situation and get help.

Yeah, most of them were cheesy but ones likes that were real gems. I also liked the one in an early episode where Serena/Usagi talked about how dangerous extreme diets were and that no one should have to feel ashamed of their bodies and that people should try eating healthier and getting a reasonable amount of exercise instead of resorting to crash diets. That's also one of the very few episodes where I actually preferred the English version, incidentally. The original had wayyyy more fat jokes at Usagi's expense while the English one had more people telling her that she wasn't fat and didn't need to go on a crazy diet.

I remember that one! Watching the Japanese one still makes me really sad because the Japanese mentality about body size hasn't changed at all in the last 20 years, and being a former teacher in Japan, I remember a lot of my girls who could have really used a positive message like the one in the dub. I generally don't like the dub at all for so, so many reasons, but looking at that one in particular 20 years later and having to deal with parents who tell teachers to not let their daughter eat anything at lunch except soup because she's getting fat (true story)...yeah. Girls desperately need that message so, so badly.

I'll miss the music! I really loved the tunes in the dub, sometimes more than the original music. (I'll take Power of Love over Moon Revenge, thank you!)

I tried re-watching some of the old dub episodes on Youtube and I was surprised by how grating I found them, so I'm looking forward to the new dub. Though I agree with the people above that the one thing I really will miss is the old music, the old dub had some pretty memorable tracks (count me as preferring My Only Love to the original Japanese music for that scene).

I *hate* the background music in the dub. The songs are okay, but the instrumentals? No ty.

I always hated her accent. Same with Jonouchi's from Yuugiou.

She'll still likely have a Brooklyn accent. It's the standard replacement for the Osaka accent
