I tend to do this a lot with my dad, who likes to go on and on about things long after anyone else cares. (For example, the other day we were visiting my aunt, who complimented his watch. He then started to tell her what brand it was and where the brand originated from and where you can buy it and my aunt was like "...I just said it's a nice watch, I didn't ask for the history of watches.") Smile and nod while turning up the volume on the iPod is the best defense.
