I have taken advantage of IP logging being off to pretend to be two different people on anon. Never to start fights with myself, if that helps.

I'm pretty sure you could get away with that with IP logging on, unless you were actively starting fights or in the middle of massive wank.

Why? They said they're not starting fights; they're just talking to themselves. As someone who also does that because it helps me work through my own stuff when I can't always count on other people responding, there's nothing inherently wrong with it.

Also, you're not the boss of us.

(AYRT) I don't talk to myself, actually. Generally the posing-as-two-people thing is because I'm posting as both the OP of a secret and as an unrelated anon. When I need to talk to myself, I do it without exposing the rest of Fandom Secrets to it. Nobody else should have to put up with that nonsense.

I do actually agree that it's rather objectionable (it seems like lying), although if IP logging was turned on I might just switch to using my actual account for some posts. I don't except on secret submission posts because I'm irrationally afraid of people's reactions. (And rationally afraid, sometimes. I've made secrets that got the OP eviscerated in the comments. I would not have wanted to attach those secrets to my account.)

I'll pose as two separate anons, because the conversation that results is more interesting and conducive to discussion than on its own. I'll also occasionally make a simple question thread and reply to it later, because I don't want my opinion influencing anyone or everyone replies to it instead of the question.

what do you get out of pretending to be different people and talking to yourself that you couldn't get from writing a diary entry or something?

Well, if I just write my own diary entry, the chance of getting outside advice is absolutely nil. This is not a difficult concept. I want advice, but in case I don't get it, it's easier for me to look at all the different angles if I'm not "On one hand, on the other hand, on another other hand" all over one post.

My posting as different anons isn't about starting fights. It's not about drumming up artificial conversation to fake you out. It's not about you. It's about me trying to figure shit out. And if that pisses you off, I guess you'll just have to be pissed off if you ever decide two anons in a thread are me.
