Which episode are you referring to as the 'best Who story ever' though..? If you're referring to that piece of crap ep 'The Doctor's Wife' I want to beat some sense in to you a little.

Sorry. 80% of Doctor Who fandom disagrees with you wrt The Doctor's Wife. Actually, that episode was based on several Eighth Doctor audio dramas, jsyk.

Also, the TARDIS was quite a character long before The Doctor's Wife and long, long before New Who.
