In every fandom I've been in recently, the top 5 fics on AO3 will go like this:

1. High School AU (possibly also ABO or wereworlf)
2. Crossover with either Sherlock or Teen Wolf
3. ABO fic or Werewolf fic
4. Another high school AU
5. Coffee shop AU

Occasionally one of those will be good. More often... they won't.

This reminds me that I was hunting for some Dragon Age fic last week and found more than one with a Sherlock crossover, and I was like: "... Whyyyyyy"

Ugh. I don't get it at all. Like, occasionally the author's idea will seem inspired, but more often than not they seem to be just writing it for the hits.

Hits can be seductive. I just posted my first MCU fic and watching the hits hammer up to 1000 in less than a day was…kind of awesome. ._.

Writing something just for the hits... well, that seems kind of sad. And like the first step towards mediocrity.

AYRT

Oh, I don't think I would ever write for the hits. I don't think I COULD write for the hits. My plot bunnies tend to start with very small ideas, and then eat and eat and eat until I think about the story when both conscious and unconscious. I cannot force myself to write a damn thing.

Perhaps it's a different story for those who can force themselves to create sentences.

However, as I said, watching the hits and kudos hammer up so quickly made me really excited. :(

Well that's understandable. I think I misunderstood you in the previous comment, anon.

Probably my fault if you did, as I said it. &hearts

If this happens in my fics, too, I should obviously work on them more. :D

Nah, most likely me, I should be in bed already. :) Have a great night, anon <3

Agreed.

What? No. No, why?!? WHY?!?!!

Obviously it's so Sherlock can use his super awesome sleuthing skills to sniff out all those sneaky mages!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Awakening!Anders would have a field day messing with Sherlock. :D

I don't want fic of it. I would just like to point that out.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that makes me dislike Sherlock EVEN MORE. Damn the Chantry! Why won't they just leave the mages alone?

Why oh why

Is this JohnLocke ridiculousness showing up in my fandoms? I was blaming Cumberbatch for Star Trek, but it's everywhere.
