Oh you should not have endured it for hours. You should have use the cleaning solution as eye drops (provided your solution can be used for that - read the instructions). If that didn't help, you should have taken the contact out immediately and clean it with the solution, rinse your eye and put it back.

Anyway, now that it's irritated you should use real eye drops, keep the contact out and go to a doctor if that doesn't help. He'll give you more drops and/or a cream. Don't worry, getting irritated eyes is normal when things go in and you don't clean the lens.
