Re: A rant on authors hating fan fiction

Why can't the fans just honor that request?

I wonder this too. No matter the reason from the author, if they don't want fanfiction written based on their works, then just don't fucking write it? It's called respect, and it's sad that so many people seem to have a lack of it. :/

I generally agree with this too... but Anne Rice is a poor example :P

Because it's an unreasonable request.

In Anne Rice's case, because there's a difference in just asking people not to do fandom things, sendind a lawyer to ask to cease and desist, and fucking come down on fandom screeching and spouting death threats. When an author is batshit insane and acts like an asshole, they lose all honor and respect.

Maybe if they simply said or wrote "I don't like fanfiction," or "Please don't write fanfic of my works," maybe I could respect that. However, the way people like Anne Rice (with C&D letters - she's pretty much the cause of the 'banned author's/media' list on fanfic.net) or Diana Galbadon (equating fanfic to pedophillia and then having one of her minions out a cancer patient's personal info), makes me go "Nope. Kiss my ass bitch."
