We got a dog "accidentally" like that when I was a teen. My mom's best friend was in the hospital, he was supposed to stay with p a few months, but never left.

I think you have to decide now if you and your mom willing to take responsibility of taking care of a dog for the rest of its life - because as you say, it's unlikely you'll be willing to let him go after six months.

My mum's owned pet dogs all her life, I've grown up with them in the house. We already have two adult dogs, both of them rescues; Monty, a roughly nine year old Rottie cross, and Zara, who is a staffie-cross and about four years old.

Sounds like you could give him a good home, if you're willing? Definitely wouldn't give it to the friend who wants to raise him to be aggressive.
