I sometimes think certain fics are so AU, they don't particularly resemble the original series that I love anymore.

But this isn't always true. I have read AUs that are done so well, the... atmosphere, I guess? is the same as canon. Subtle things, characterization, even story dilemmas. I like that sort of thing fine.

Generally, though, I don't seek it out. The vast majority have come across as juvenile and OOC to me (an excuse to shove all the characters in high school, or something). Then again, that's true for most fanfic. :P
