Re: I think... we've accidentally gained a dog

Neuter that dog. Lie if you have to (say that your vet won't take him otherwise or something), but holy jesus there is no reason to not neuter a dog that's not a) owned by a responsible breeder for b) the express purpose of breeding it responsibly. It is so much better for the health of the dog (and your mental health) it isn't even funny.

Also, if you're taking care of the dog for six months, it's your dog, and the original owner is just lying to himself. By that point, you will have owned it for more than half of its life, and have also put the money into microchipping, vaccinating, etc. In my opinion, it's either you or the RSPCA, since anybody training for aggression is NEVER an option.

Why the hell does someone who won't be able to take care of a dog for 6 months have a new puppy in the first place?

I don't think the possibility of going to jail was in his plans when he got Dodge originally. That said, he's not long come back off a trip to Eastern Europe, which he sure as hell wouldn't have been able to take a pup under 6 months (the youngest you can get a pet passport iirc) along on.
