And though I have not attempted to relate the shape of the mountains and land-masses to what geologists may say or surmise about the nearer past, imaginatively this 'history' is supposed to take place in a period of the actual Old World of this planet.
That said, the concept of reincarnation in Tolkien's legendarium is so... particular that I don't think it could ever work the way I've seen with most reincarnation fics. I actually prefer non-AU modern day fic, if we're going to be doing modern day Tolkien at all. That's why we have immortal characters.
