-Senior in college, also EMT
-hoping to go into medicine, field biology or research (researched heart failure in an exchange program)
-Plays several instruments
-Loves crafting (knitting, painting drawing, making chain maille jewelry)
-Likes tea
-Likes gardening
-Loves reading, esp fantasy
-Likes video games, prefers Nintendo (has several Nintendo systems and a PS3)

-Does not like useless statues/knick knacks

I don't know what to get them!!!!!!

If they paint canvas boards would be good! If they draw more a nice sketck book would work! I know a lot of artists like moleskin sketchpads.

I've just started knitting and was surprised by how the cost of yarn can add up. There were a bunch of funky/colorful yarns where I was like "If someone got those for me it would be great, but for spending my own money I want to get something simpler/more practical". 20-40$ would I think be enough to get several skeins....

I will have to see if I can find a guide to what are good types of yarn to buy (or maybe other knitting supplies)?

"Good types of yarn to buy" is such a subjective thing that I wouldn't recommend actually purchasing yarn unless you've seen the person's work and know what they like to use/make. I'd be far more inclined to suggest a gift card to a nice local yarn store if you know of any, or a set of pretty stitch markers.
