I felt bad for the actress since it didn't seem like she wanted to go

I'm pretty sure it was the other way around. They tried to keep her but she was determined to leave. They had to rewrite part of the season and they had trouble shooting her farewell episodes because she refused to show up on set.

Hmm, interesting. I had heard that she was in contract negotiations and was asking for more money (to be on par with some of the male actors?). She intended to go back and wanted to continue with the show but the network decided to drop her rather than pay her, which surprised everyone, including the writers, who had to scramble to rewrite the episodes. It seemed like she didn't want to go, but maybe I heard wrong.

Maybe what you're thinking of happened after that? I know I don't know anything after she was dropped from the show. I can see not wanting to return after being dumped like that, but what I know? *shrug*

She wanted something that CBS wasn't willing to give. I don't personally think it was money, but opinions vary on whether it was money, more time off, a shorter contract, etc. CBS of course says it wasn't money. She didn't say anything IIRC other than that it was time for her to move on or something like that. I did hear that Mark Harmon advised her to take the offer she was given, and I don't think he would have done that if it was unfair.

Whatever happened, I'm pretty sure from what I've read that she was the one who walked away in the end, not CBS. Whatever she was asking for, it was apparently something she wasn't willing to back down on and CBS wasn't willing to give. The problem was that this happened just a few days before filming for season eleven started, they already had the scripts written and everything, everyone apparently expected her to re-sign,...and then she didn't. And it kind of threw everything into a mess.

what i read was that cote wasn't getting equal pay to the rest of the cast (michael, pauley, and sean) and wanted to get paid as much as them. cbs said no, cote said "fine, then i quit".
