This basically happened with me too.

They whipped through the character introductions fast enough it was easy to miss. Don't feel bad.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-02 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like it's mentioned really early that they're related. When they're on the news after beating the kaiju that broke into Sydney, doesn't it say father and son team? Now I'm doubting myself.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure it does.

That's how I remember it. Still don't have the Blu-ray to check :/

They just say "Chuck and Herc Hansen" so.

But I KNOW it's explicit in a scene at Hong Kong. Either when introducing the other teams, or in the cafeteria.

Same. I remember knowing they were father/son early on. Though then I got confused because I thought Chuck and Raleigh were the same person for a bit. XD

Welcome to the dark side.

(Haven't actually seen this movie, so I can't comment on whether or not it was explicitly stated, sorry.)

I haven't seen this movie, but I have an alarming tendency to do this.

Yep, same. In hindsight the fact they were father and son probably should've been obvious, but nope, didn't catch it until near the end. (Which was awkward. I don't usually do parent/child pairings, but...it happened. And I feel a bit guilty about it, but whatever...they were hot.)

Does anyone have recs?

Search for these in AO3:
docbitchface - Fistful of Steel
kuro49 - Nice Long Collision
RussianWitch - Reining him in
seizethelight - Crawling Back to You
writers:
elsewherewolf [mostly fluff]
linndechir
Sonora [the best hansencest writer, hands down]

I knew they were related and they were having the sex anyway to me. Not even a bit sorry. They shouldn't get it on so much. lol

(Anonymous) 2014-06-02 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoops, I kind of missed that too.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2014-06-03 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ohh, now I'll have to watch it with my leather goggles on.

I didn't even know they were all that close until I figured out they were father and son. Oops.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Th...they really didn't come across (to me at least) as father and son. They had some sort of bizarre sexual tension that I wasn't even purposely looking for, I just remember side-eyeing a lot of their scenes together and going 'uhhhhh. are they REALLY father and son?'

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I find it hilarious that part of their family resemblance seems to be that they both have completely wrong Australian accents in the exact same ways.

(Seriously though, the amount of Aust actors running around the US and they got a yank and a brit to play these guys? When will tv/movies learn that non-Australians are pretty much universally incapable of playing Australians at all convincingly)

He he he... the dangers of watching action movies with little character development with slash goggles. Which is also a weakness of mine.

On the other hand, I don't have your excuse: I totally ship them but their characters in Pacific Rim are so cardboard it's closer to RPS, really...

Don't get me wrong, I thought the movie was very enjoyable but OMG, 2D characters as far as the eye could see: thank God for the eye candy! Which is the only excuse I can think of for my liking Hansencest?

Though admittedly I prefer to slash Hercules with Stacker: same age range, clearly long-standing friendship and actual trust and respect... As opposed to the disaster that is the Hansen family dynamics which is more off-putting to me than the incest (fictional!) :(

If it helps, I was convinced the Kaidonovskys were siblings, not spouses.

Same here, but realising that they are father and son just made me ship them harder.

If I recall correctly, it's implied in the very beginning that most jaeger pilot teams were slmost always blood related. Actually, if I'm still recalling correctly, when Raleigh is first taken for a tour of the Hong Kong base, there's a comment about how surprising it was that the Russian pilots are a married couple.

And fun fact, in real life Herc's actor is actually like five years older than Chuck's real life actor. XD So shipping them is kinda hard not to do.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't but I am now. I'd be all over a fic where they aren't biologically related or maritally related and just full-time daddy/son living.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
LOL
I can imagine the pain though
