(Anonymous) 2014-06-02 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)"Christians," as a group, believe a bunch of different and often contradictory things, because their source material (and all its various translations) often outright contradicts itself. Cherry-picking and interpretation is necessary for pretty much any Christian, no matter if they're the liberal-progressive type or the fire-and-brimstone "literalist" type. This guy is a "real Christian" - but so are the Christians who find his beliefs unBiblical and morally abhorrent. Because Christianity, as a whole, is not a consistent system. That's how schisms happen in the first place, and both sides merrily accuse one another of not being "real" Christians. From the outside, it's almost amusing to watch. ("Almost" because of how many innocent people are hurt in the process.)
Consistency isn't a virtue when you're consistently wrong, so this guy really doesn't deserve any respect for it. His moral compass is pointed directly up his own ass.
