Definitely not the way it's portrayed in popular culture. You likely would not be happy with my answer as to how it works, so I will just leave the discussion at that, and we can agree to disagree.

You've already made one post that some people won't like. Why stop there? Why not share your view, so that even if people dislike it and disagree with it, they at least have a shot at understanding it?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Because my answer actually is conservative/fundie: It works like the book says it does. You disagree? Fine. We disagree. Nothing wrong with disagreeing. But you won't convince me otherwise, and it's not my place to convince anyone else of anything, let alone convince you otherwise, so is there any point in continuing this conversation? Especially as it begins to border on the uncivil, or so it seems to me.

How does the book say it works? The only bit I can recall that touched upon sexuality in any depth is the Song of Solomon, which...isn't exactly non-hormonal.

A couple people are being uncivil; most people are just disagreeing with you. And yes, it's unlikely that anyone is going to convince anyone else of anything, but why does that have to be the point? And why hint at your views but then decline to expound upon them?

I guess I just don't understand. I engage with people with whom I disagree with a mind toward persuading them; I'll admit that. But whether they're persuaded or not, I'll usually learn something from them, and hopefully they'll learn something from me. I don't see the benefit of bowing out just because it seems that no one is going to "win."

You. I like you.

Part of it is the couple people being uncivil, part of it is the lateness of the hour in my timezone, and the other thing is, I have answered fairly straightforwardly, not "hint[ed] at them but not expound[ed] on them." People seem rather nonplussed, giving extreme examples/responses, or just generally starting to be surly. So where is the dialogue then?

Also: I am not "bowing out" (though I will be soon because I really need to sleep sometime before my alarm goes off) which, if I've given the indication I'm flouncing, that wasn't my intention. It's just fairly clear that I am not on the same page as the majority here, and that's fine, but I'm not about "winning" or "losing" here -- although if I keep engaging with some of the anons/users, it might get to that point. I don't want to be at that point.

Okay, but...with all due respect, you haven't been straightforward. "It works like the book says it does" may seem direct, but that statement is very, very much open to interpretation.

I totally get you wanting to take off for the night if you're in a different timezone, but if you're willing to clear up how you feel before you go, then I'll appreciate and respect it. And that's regardless whether I'll like it or not.

Ten bucks says Anon's talking (as vaguely as humanly possible) about the Devil or demons or some such rot.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
The only thing about your answer to "how do you think sexuality works" that was straightforward was you saying how you believe it doesn't work, and that is hardly an answer.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Pfff, you are already anon. Unless you know that your answer is full of shit, I don't know why you'd hesitate now.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
OK, are you one anon? Or two? If you are DA, I answered above.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see what you wrote up there. ...You're one of *those* people who think 'the Devil makes you do it', aren't you? Yikes. Well. Kudos for sticking to your guns, ill-loaded and assembled as they are.
