I very, very much support people not following everything in the Bible. As a gay person and a non-Christian. I'm totally okay with people saying "yeah, the Bible says that, but I choose not to believe that."

But it is HILARIOUS when Christians pretend the Bible "doesn't actually say that" despite very specifically saying exactly that. Or that the OT should be thrown out completely, or that it didn't actually mean that, etc.

Why can't you just acknowledge that the Bible has fucked up shit, and you don't want to follow everything in it, and that's okay? You can still call yourself a Christian. Don't pretend the Bible is pro-gay, or not anti-gay. It is anti-gay. And you don't have to follow that, or believe in a god who hates gay people.

Yeah, but that's the problem: it's only anti-gay if you follow a particular interpretation. Other interpretations suggest that its merely anti-adultery and anti-idolatry.

I don't know which group is crazier with their Bible interpretations: liberals or conservatives. it's nuts what people will try to justify when they have an agenda in mind.

That's kind of the point, isn't it? There isn't actually any way to be a true Christian. It's all made up.

Now that I can agree with!

Those are precisely my feelings as well. I think it's fantastic that people exercise common sense and refuse to accept the shitty parts of the Bible. But it's a little weird that instead of just acknowledging they're shitty and total nonsense, people try to... pretend the shitty parts aren't really shitty? Or that Jesus said it's okay not to obey the shitty parts?

That is an awful lot of unnecessary mental gymnastics, IMO.
