Take or leave advice–

Re: energy and bouncing around– get a pull toy, play tug-o'-war. Fastest way to tire him just enough that he'll settle down, and then learn to like that. It takes about a week before puppy goes, "Hey, lying around is actually kinda nice." It won't give you hour upon blessed hour of peace, but those tired-of-pulling gaps definitely will give you a training window. That's when you teach him to sit, lay down, stay. Also good for leash training. Tugging on a pull toy also tends to lessen teething woes.

(throwing balls or sticks produces a different kind of tired-out = sleep naow. Then he wakes up and has ALL the energy EVER, all over again)

As for lapdogs, all doggiez iz lapdogz! Even my late Neapolitan mastiff-cross believed firmly that he was a lapdog. And Great Danes literally aim their butts at your lap, and then park (google image search: "great dane lap dog" if you wanna giggle).
